                                                           A Leadership Program for Disabilities

Who is eligible for this training program?

  • African American adults [18 yrs+] with developmental disabilities and African American parents who have African American Children with developmental disabilities

What will you learn?

  • A history of the disability movement;

  • Values and benefits of inclusive education;

  • County case management services;

  • Coaching on how to meet with elected officials, school staff & other service providers;

  • The importance of self, supported and competitive employment opportunities

  • Housing for people with disabilities

  • Day at the Capitol, system change and the legislative process

Training program dates:

  •  Sat. 9.27.08; Sat. 10.11.08; Sat.10.25.08; Sat. 11.8.08 ; Sat. 11.15.08

On Eagles Wings members also may attend 'IPSII Inc.'s Day at the Minnesota Capitol' on Wed. 3.19.09

Training program times:

  • All trainings are on Saturday from 8:30 am-2:30 pm

Training program supports:

  • A light breakfast and lunch will be provided

  • Participants may be reimbursed up to $50 per OEW training for childcare costs.

  • Eligible mileage, Personnel Care Assistance and translation/facilitation services will be provided on a limited basis

"Tell me about OEW?

  • On Eagles Wings is a Leadership Training Program on Disability for African American adults [18 yrs and older] with developmental disability and African American parents who have African American children under the age of 18 yrs with developmental disabilities.

  • On Eagles Wings  teaches participants, introductory leadership skills and the process of developing positive partnerships with elected officials and other individuals who make the policy decisions about services that participates and their families use;

  • On Eagles Wings is funded in part by the Minnesota Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities financed in part by a grant from the Department of Health and Human Services, Administration on Developmental Disabilities under provisions of P.L.106-402.
