         Partners in Policymaking ®  was created in Minnesota by the Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities in  1987. Partners is an innovative, competency based leadership training program for adults with developmental disabilities and parents of young children with disabilities.

  •    OUR MISSION    Independence, Productivity, Self Determination, Integration &Inclusion (IPSII)  for People with Disabilities and Their Families.

  •    Our Board of Directors is a mix of individuals who are passionate about creating change within our community, creating welcoming schools, neighborhoods and workplaces for individuals with disabilities.  Each board member serves a three year term.

    • Our Board Members are

      • Parents of children and young adults with disabilities

      • Individuals with disabilities

      • Service providers to people with disabilities and their families

      • Several of our Board Members are graduates of the Partners in Policymaking  program

  •     OUR NON-PROFIT   Is a 501 (C) (3) tax exempt organization, comprised of people with disabilities and their families.

    • We are customer driven to ensure cultural competency and best practice.

    • We achieve our mission through our leadership trainings, analysis of public policy, and outreach to traditionally underserved communities.

    • All of our materials are free of charge

    • All of our trainings are free of charge

    • We provide reimbursement for child care and mileage

  •     WE BELIEVE                        

    • Each person a unique individual, a citizen, having leadership potential no matter their challenges in life;

    • All communities depend on the capacity of people, on their fullness, on their possibility.

What will you learn?

  •  Disability History

  • Post secondary education

  • County Based Services

  • Day at the Capitol

  • How to seek and maintain employment

  • Housing options for young adults with developmental disabilities

  • System Change

  •  Effective communication with policymakers, service providers

  • Leadership developmental and your roll in changing the world for people with disabilities and their families.

Training program dates:

  •  Sat. 2.7.09; Sat. 2.21.09; Sat. 3.7.09; Wed. 3.18.09; Sat. 3.28.09

Training program time:

  •  8:30 am-2:30 pm

Training supports:

  • A light breakfast and lunch will be provided

  • Participants will receive a $50 stipend at the successful completion of each training

  • Eligible mileage will be reimbursed

  • Limited personal care assistance and facilitation will be provided

Training Site:

Pathway Center FREE Workshops
The Art of Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports

  • Pathways Center 'Art of Positive Behavioral Interventions' will be offer twice in January 2009

  • Pathways workshops will train parents of youth with developmental disabilities and their service providers in the art of positive behavioral interventions and supports.

Featured Speaker is Dr. Joe Reichle, University of Minnesota and national expert in the communicative nature of challenging behavior

These FREE workshops will include a $50 stipend for parents of children and young adults with developmental disabilities to attend.

Is an Introductory Leadership Training Program on Disability designed for African American adults with DD & African American parents who have children with DD

FREE Trainings begin September 2008

Who is eligible for this training program?

  • African American adults [18 yrs+] with developmental disabilities and African American parents who have African American Children with developmental disabilities

What will you learn?

  • A history of the disability movement;

  • Values and benefits of inclusive education;

  • County case management services;

  • Coaching on how to meet with elected officials, school staff & other service providers;

  • The importance of self, supported and competitive employment opportunities

  • Housing for people with disabilities

  • Day at the Capitol, system change and the legislative process

Training program dates:

  •  Sat. 9.27.08; Sat. 10.11.08; Sat.10.25.08; Sat. 11.8.08 ; Sat. 11.15.08

On Eagles Wings members also may attend 'IPSII Inc.'s Day at the Minnesota Capitol' on Wed. 3.19.09

Training program times:

  • All trainings are on Saturday from 8:30 am-2:30 pm

Training program supports:

  • A light breakfast and lunch will be provided

  • Participants may be reimbursed up to $50 per OEW training for childcare costs.

  • Eligible mileage, Personnel Care Assistance and translation/facilitation services will be provided on a limited basis
